Got A Junk Car? 2 Different Things You Can Do To Get Rid Of It

If you have a junk car sitting around your home, this can really be an eyesore. Fortunately, you don't have to leave it sitting there for long as there are many things you can do with it. Keep reading and soon that old car will be out of sight.

Take Your Car to a Junkyard

The most logical place to take your old car is to a junkyard.  There are requirements you have to follow, but what these are depends on the junkyard you take your car to. Some of the requirements they may have include:

  • Requirements for preparations: You may have to dismantle the vehicle yourself or the junkyard may do it for you. Find out if this includes tires, as they may not want items that are not made of metal.
  • Title and registrations: Some junk yards will ask for the title and registration for the vehicle, while others will not.

Junkyards will pay you for your car, so shop around to find the best one. The junkyard will ask you if the car is operable and if there are any parts that are damaged.

Donate Your Car to Charity

If you do not need the money, you should consider donating your car to a charity. You can get some money, however, because this will be a tax write-off. You should be able to find charities in your area that have car donation programs.

In most cases, the charity will sell your car either as a whole or as parts. They will put any money they earn back into their charity. If the car is not completely junked, they may hire a mechanic to make it drivable and use it for any mobile services they may offer. No matter what the charity chooses to do with your car, you need to make sure you get a receipt so you can deduct your donation on your taxes. Some charities will offer to pick up your car for you so you will not have to pay for any towing expenses.

Make sure the charity you choose is a well-known one so you will know they are using your car for a good purpose.

You could sell off the parts of your junk car if you need to make some money, if there are any parts that are still in good condition. Hire a mechanic to look over the car if you need to.

Buying Used Auto Parts

When my car started having problems, I decided to investigate the costs of doing the repairs on my own. Unfortunately, I quickly discovered that car parts were almost as expensive as paying a professional, which is why I started researching used auto parts. Fortunately, I was able to find an amazing shop that sold used auto parts, and so I bought a radiator to see how well it worked. This blog is all about saving money by fixing your car, so that you don't have to break the bank to drive a happy, healthy automobile. Check out this blog to find out more.
